“I Remember Now”: Woman Claims She’s Cherrie Mahan, 8-Year-Old Girl Who Disappeared from a Bus Stop in 1985

Another woman has come forward with a now-deleted claim that she is an 8-year-old girl who authorities have been trying to find for the past four decades.

When Cherrie Ann Mahan disappeared after stepping off her school bus in 1985, sending the world into shock. Since then, several social media groups have been created in his memory, including one on Facebook.

Now, a woman named Turner’s monkey is convinced that she may be the long lost girl.

“I believe deep in my heart that I am Cherrie Mahan. I lived a lie in my life for a very long time,” she says wrote on January 18. “I am extremely traumatized and have had a very difficult life. I looked at pictures of my family and I remember it now.

“I don’t know how this could happen. My heart finally feels whole again, because I’ve held on to hope for so long. I’m tired and have had to put up with so much from people I thought had my best interests at heart. I am still so grateful and looking forward to the future.”

A DNA test has not yet been published and the comments are speculative at best. But Kera said she doesn’t want to be “silenced in a permanent way” and is waiting for a response from state police after previously calling them.

She also claimed that she was the same age Cherrie would be today: 48 years old.

Kera’s post is quite recent, but has received a lot of attention. At the time of writing, the post is flooded with over 100 comments, many of which describe how insensitive her words are.

“Please don’t do this to her family,” one user wrote.

“Prove it before you post here giving her family false hope,” another agreed.

Others saw the statement as nothing more than a scheme to gain more attention.

“Instead of posting this, you better get a DNA test done, but honestly, I really think this is a scam, someone who just wants to gain publicity and fame…,” one netizen theorized.

“If you’re making all this up to get attention you should be put in a mental hospital,” a fourth scolded, adding that it was “cruel, naughty” punishment for Cherrie’s family.

Several comments also began debating the age of the missing girl, with some Facebook users claiming they could see a resemblance. Others said she looked way too young.

This is an ongoing incident as attention is now focused on the authorities.

Cherrie was a little girl from rural Winfield Township, Butler County Pennsylvania born in 1976. Less than ten years of her life passed before she mysteriously disappeared on February 22, 1985.

She was declared legally dead in November 1988 and her kidnapping is widely believed to have been carried out by someone outside her family.

Forty years later, it remains one of the most infamous unsolved cases of missing children in the United States, and many posters are trying to raise awareness with the headline Have you seen me? have been hung throughout the country.

And interestingly, Kera’s statement isn’t the first time a stranger has claimed to be Cherrie – as four people have come forward with the same line of thought.

In early summer 2024, a woman posted in the same Facebook group that she was the missing girl in question.

Authorities investigated the matter, but things stopped when the group’s administrator banned her for “harassing and bullying” other members.

To this day, Cherrie’s mother still holds out hope that her daughter will be found. She’s gotten used to random bits of information floating around, but it was still a shock to see the words in front of her.

“If you wanted your 15 minutes of fame, you’ve already ruined it,” she said Butler Eagle. “People are mean, they are cruel, but this really hits me like crazy. It will be forty years since Cherrie went missing.”
