- TikTok is back online for US users less than 24 hours after the initial ban.
- Trump has reassured people about the efforts he will make to ensure TikTok resumes in America.
- The social media app sued based on First Amendment rights after a bill citing the ban passed — but they lost at the Supreme Court.
“In accordance with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service,” the company wrote in a statement.
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will not be penalized for bringing TikTok to more than 170 million Americans and helping more than 7 million small businesses thrive.”
It continued: “It is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”

This news comes just a few hours after the app officially went offline in America, when those affected by the ban were greeted with one message.
“A law has been passed in the US banning TikTok. Unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to use TikTok for a while. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay informed!”
While the platform was due to close at the stroke of midnight on January 19, services stopped operating about two and a half hours earlier.

“It hasn’t even been a day and tiktok is already back for Americans, can we ban them again 😑,” one user says hilariously wrote on X.
There have been many updates on whether the social media app is gone for good or if it will come back, but the uncertain future is the only certainty.
As reported by WiredCongress passed a law last year requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to “divest its U.S. operations or face a ban effective January 19.”

The social media app immediately sued under the First Amendment, but recently lost in the Supreme Court, upholding the ban and saying it did not violate those rights.
Just last night they stayed true to this promise when TikTok disappeared from the app stores and showed an error message to everyone in the US.

Prior to the ban, many content creators and influencers posted their own tributes, whether they were emotional speeches or humorous content.
“In a world where there is so much judgment, TikTok provided a place where I can be free, cringe, be who I am,” said one New York-based influencer, adding: “I shouldn’t cry over something like that stupid, but it really changed my life.”
Another editor and novelist from the book community wrote, “I owe you everything. You all let me be a part of your booktok journey with open arms and gave me such a safe space to be myself.
“I can’t thank you enough.”
